This brochure is a continuation of the book „Bulgarian Orders and Medals“. Sofia, 2002. It includes the new, currently effective orders and medals of the Republic of Bulgaria, issue 2003-2004, with information on the basic parameters and coloured photos in scale 1:1.
The brochure is supplemented with two articles published in the press. They contain some comparative assessments and confrontations of the new and old (Monarchical or Republican) Bulgarian orders. I hope that these supplementing materials will assist to the better understanding of the development of Bulgarian order system so far and will promote its future development.
The Act Changing Decree No.1094 on the Spiritual Stimulation in the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, promulgated in the State Gazette, issue 27 from April 5, 1991, cancelled the orders of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, but for those intended to award foreign citizens: the Order of Stara Planina, the Order of the Madara Horseman, and the Order of the Rose, which, since July 15, 1994, were also awarded to Bulgarian citizens with great merit for the Republic of Bulgaria. These were cancelled by Decree No.230 from June 9, 2003.
