Part I - Bulgarian Orders and Medals (second edition)
(parralell text in Bulgarian/English or Bulgarian/Russian)
The aim of the author is to emphasize on the photos of the Bulgarian awards and their specifics and not to the narrative connected to their establishment and modification. In my opinion this is of great importance not only for the collectors and historians but to the broad pubic - for better presentation of the bigger picture, the diversity and quality of the Bulgarian awards.
Without having claims for comprehensiveness, in this book is made an attempt for relatively full presentation of the orders and medals of the Third Bulgarian State from the Liberation from the Ottoman empire till now. The time period generally follows the changes in the Third Bulgarian State:
- The Principality of Bulgaria - Knyaz Alexander I (1879-1886), Knyaz Ferdinand I (1887-1908);
- The Kingdom of Bulgaria - Tsar Ferdinand I (1908-1918), Tsar Boris III (1918-1943), Regents’ Rule (1943-1946 until the referendum for republic);
- Republic of Bulgaria - People’s Republic of Bulgaria (1946-1991), Republic of Bulgaria (after 1991).
In the first edition of the book 1295 full colour photos were published, and combined the five volumes containing 10510 photos in scale 1:1 (exceptions are specifically indicated in the text). In this study alongside the main awards are shown photos of different issues, modifications, sample specimens, curiosities and miniatures, as well as materials related to the establishment and bestowment of the awards. The photos are made specifically for this book. An exemption is made only for photos that I was not able to photograph. They are taken from catalogues of auctions or books with provided source of information.
